Wash Drawing

A wash drawing refers to a preliminary study or sketch created using thin, diluted oil paint, applied in a translucent layer to achieve tonal variations and depth. This technique is similar to wash drawings in watercolour, but uses oil paints thinned with mediums or solvents. In the classical tradition, a wash drawing is generally the first step in creating a painting, whether in grisaille or using a colour palette.
